A smaller and cheaper PS3?

Yes folks! That is the forecast hopefully sometime in June this year. But how we hear you asked. Well this will be possible when Sony implements the 45-nanometer Cell chip, according to David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe during a recent interview with The Guardian.

Sounds great right? But what is so special a 45-nanometer Cell chip? Well this new chip will run cooler and at a lower wattage than the current 65-nanometer Cell chip. So when a smaller chip is used, a smaller and less expensive processor will only be needed to run it and thus lowering the production cost of the console on a whole.

So if you've been meaning to get a PS3 of your own, this is obviously good news. We suggest you start saving now.
